IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

We have been working behind the scenes making changes to the way we will operate from the 1st July 2025.

We’ve looked at how we can make savings for our existing/future Clients, by how the business is managed.

We are a small family business and have decided to separate R P Compliance in to two separate businesses. A new one ‘Future Homes Assessments Ltd’, dedicated to all the energy calculations required by Clients, i.e. SAP/EPC, Water Efficiency, Overheating, Excessive Glazing, Condensation Risk Analysis, etc. R P Compliance will continue to provide the on-site testing, i.e. Airtightness, Sound Insulation & Ventilation Testing etc.

Future Homes Assessments Ltd is owned by Lee O’Brien who as many will know, completes all energy calculations for R P Compliance and has done so for the last 10+ years, along with his wife Michelle. Michelle will be providing administration and booking keeping for the business.
The company will not be VAT registered for the foreseeable future. This means that anyone requiring energy calculations only, will not be charged VAT, therefore making a significant saving for those that are not in a position to claim back VAT.

R P Compliance Testing Ltd remains in the ownership of Ros Piggott, but changes are also being made to the way the services are delivered.
After much consideration, it was decided many months ago to not renew our accreditation with UKAS, because the costs have far out-weighed the benefits. However, we will continue to maintain and work to the processes and standards when we were UKAS accredited (expires 30/06/2025).

What does this mean? We have looked at other tester schemes and have decided to use the ‘Elmhurst Registered Testers Scheme’ for airtightness testing. For sound insulation testing we are using the SITMA scheme.

We will be providing more updates as we implement the changes, but if you have any questions, please get in touch via e-mail ros@rp-compliance.co.uk

R P Compliance has been in the industry for over 12 years, and with more that 50 years combined experience, we aim to offer advice and guidance when and wherever we can (often free of charge). Below is a brief overview of one of the newer building regulations and one that has been effective since 2003. As changes are made in our industry, we will provide short insights to our Clients, followers and anyone in the industry to help keeping them up-to-date with the latest regulations, legislation & standards for the services we provide - see below.

Keeping You Informed:

What is Building Regulation Part O?

The updates to Building Regulations Approved Document Part O came into effect in June 2022, to address overheating in new buildings. 'Overheating' is approached on a basis of prevention and remedy.

Prevention: by limiting the amount of direct sunlight through windows and glazing. R P Compliance have qualified assessors to produce the calculations for you and make recommendations on how to comply. For more information go to Energy Calculations

What is 'SOUND INSULATION TESTING?' - Part 1
Building regulation Part E requires new build dwellings and conversions to have physical testing of shared partitions between those dwellings and other adjacent buildings, i.e. party walls/floors, to ensure they comply (airborne & impact).
How do we do this?
Using the equipment in the photograph above. If you would like to know how the equipment is used, watch out for our next update here when we will show you how we test for 'airborne' sound insulation.
SOUND INSULATION TESTING - Part 2 Following on from Part 1, today we briefly explain how we perform party wall tests for airborne sound transfer. The equipment required for this is shown in the picture right. The meter measures and records the sound levels in decibels (dB) and reverberation time in seconds, the amplifier drives the dodecahedron loudspeaker, which has 10 individual speakers that emit 'pink noise'. The picture below shows the typical speaker and meter positions during the test. The loudspeaker emits a sound level of at least 100dB in one of the pairs of rooms, where the levels are measured at different positions and heights. The levels are then measured in the room on the other side of the party wall, together with background noise measurements and reverberation time to eliminate the effects from the single figure rating, which should be a minimum of 45dB noise loss through the wall of purpose-built dwellings, and 43dB for dwellings formed by material change of use of an existing property. Next time we will explain how we arrive at the single figure rating, but in the meantime, if you have any questions or would like more information, please get in touch.
