SPEECH INTELLIGIBILITY - STI

Speech intelligibility is an important measure of the effectiveness of a communication system, communicating in a noisy environment or in meeting rooms, for example. In most situations it's important to clearly hear and understand what's being said. It could be over a speaker system or face-to-face in a meeting room.

Amplified speech systems like public address systems, telephones, radio links, intercoms are vital to todays society, and unamplified speech is equally important in offices, workshops, vehicles and many other situations where people are communicating with each other.

Speech measurements are carried out through an artificial mouth-directional loudspeaker sound source such, as the one shown right. 

All measurements are taken with a Norsonic NOR-140 sound level meter (shown left), which are routinely calibrated to UKAS standards.
